Evergreen timer with other email platforms and Zapier

Learn how to set up an evergreen countdown timer with Zapier.

If you are using an email platform not supported by our app, you'll need Zapier to trigger our timers through a webhook for Evergreen timers. You won’t need Zapier for Live timers.

💡
As of today, August 16th, 2024, we are building native integrations for the following platforms: Mailerlite, Getresponse, and Kababi Mail. They will be available by the end of August 2024.

Create Campaign

  • Campaign Title: Select a title that clearly describes your campaign.
  • Campaign Type: Select "Evergreen Timer."
  • Email Platform: Select "Other."
  • Click "Next Step" to proceed.

Deadline duration

Choose timer length

Set the duration for the Evergreen timer using days, hours, or minutes. For example, if you choose “48 hours,” the timer will expire 48 hours after the subscriber triggers it.

• If you select “days,” you can also choose to end the timer at a specific time each day by toggling on the “End at a specific time?” option.

End at a specific time?

This option allows you to set the timer to expire at a specific time of day, regardless of when the countdown starts. For instance, if you set the timer to end at 11:59 PM, all subscribers’ timers will expire at that exact time on the final day, ensuring consistency.

Timezone:

Select the timezone relevant to your campaign.

Example Preview:

The preview below shows how the timer will function based on your settings.

Proceed to the next step.

Finalize your timer settings and move forward to the customization options.

Add pages to campaign

Offer Page:

Enter the URL of the page where the offer will be displayed. This is the page where the timer will appear and track the deadline.

Expired Page (Optional):

Enter the URL of the page where users will be redirected once the timer expires. If you don’t set this, users will remain on the offer page even after the deadline.

Conversion Page (Optional):

Enter the URL of the page that signifies a successful conversion, such as a checkout or thank you page. Tracking this page helps measure campaign success.

Timer Type:

Choose how you want the timer to be displayed:

Floating Bar: The timer stays visible at the top or bottom of the page, even as users scroll.

Inline Timer: Embed the timer directly into your page content. You can place it in multiple spots if needed.

Hidden: The timer won’t be visible to users, but the page will still redirect when the timer expires.

Save and Create Campaign:

After setting up your pages and selecting the timer type, click “Save.” Once everything is configured, click “Create Campaign” to finalize and launch your campaign.

1. Add Webhook to "Other"

To trigger the evergreen timer, you need to activate the webhook. There are two options for triggering the webhook:

A. Through a custom POST request within your email platform (if supported) B. Through the webhook Zap in Zapier.

Example A

Let's examine an email platform that is not yet natively supported: Moosend.

When creating an automation, you can add the following action: "Then post a webhook"

Now copy the webhook from our app and paste it where you see "Webhook URL"

Immediately after this action, you can send your first email. The timer will now synchronize with the sending of your initial email.

Example B If your email platform doesn't allow you to call a webhook, you'll need to use Zapier to trigger the webhook when the first email is sent. For a detailed guide on setting up Zapier, watch the video below:

2. Setup tracking code

This is the tracking code for your CountdownTimer.ai account. Add it to the website where you want to display our timer. Be sure to include it on the Conversion page if you have one. We recommend placing the tracking code in the header of every page on your website.

3. Update email links

When you link from your email to your landingpage, it is omportant not to use the regular URL but our generated URL. Which looks like this:

⚠️
Important! You must replace {replace-with-email} with your email platform's specific shortcode. Skipping this step will prevent the timer from functioning correctly.

Each email platform uses its own shortcode. Let's look at Aweber as an example. To display the subscriber's email in your message, you use {!email} within the email content.

We need to use this same shortcode to replace {replace-with-email} in our URL.

Here's how it changes:

Before: https://timerai.io/a7P0BDIP?em={replace-with-email}

After: https://timerai.io/a7P0BDIP?em={!email}

This is the URL you should use in your emails when linking to your landing page. We recommend making a word, sentence, or button clickable rather than displaying the full URL.

4. Add countdown timer to email

To display the timer in your email, copy the embed code and paste it into your email content. When you examine the code closely, you'll notice that it also contains {replace-with-email}

Notion image

Here again it is important to replace {replace-with-email} with {!email}

Here's how it changes:

Before:

<img style="display: block; border: none; outline: none; width: 400px; opacity: 1; max-width: 100%" src="https://timerai.io/timer/91b546c2-f2ba-4ed4-819b-2fea818aa113?em={replace-with-email}&GWivq2paWDN" border="0" width="400" />

After:

<img style="display: block; border: none; outline: none; width: 400px; opacity: 1; max-width: 100%" src="https://timerai.io/timer/91b546c2-f2ba-4ed4-819b-2fea818aa113?em=

⚠️
Important: Make sure to replace the placeholder with the correct shortcode for your email platform. If you don't do this, the timer won't work properly in your emails.
